Release: Rockdale businesses to benefit from environmental audit
Twenty
small businesses in Rockdale Town Centre are set to enjoy the benefits
of Council's new $19,740 environmental education program.
Rockdale City
Council recently received funding from the NSW Government to set
up environmental sustainability education projects in the local
community. The selected businesses will receive an energy audit
and retrofit.
Rockdale Mayor,
Cr John Flowers said this was great news for Rockdale businesses.
"This programme
is giving our community a better chance for a sustainable future.
The audit will focus on waste management, energy and water conservation
and will help businesses save money as they become more efficient
in their use of resources," he said.
"The aim
is to spread a relevant message to our local community about sustainable
living. Education is a vital part of protecting our environment
- without it we can't expect people to make the changes we need
to address serious threats and problems still facing our environment."
"Those
businesses who willingly participate should be commended for striving
to achieve a more environmentally friendly town centre."
Participating
Rockdale businesses will receive the assessment and some of the
retrofit for free. As part of the program the businesses will need
to implement at least one of the recommendations and monitor any
changes to their energy and water bills. The businesses will also
need to report these findings to the Council, which will help quantify
any reduction in energy and water use.
The project
is part of the NSW Government's "Our Environment - It's a Living
Thing" education program. NSW Minister for the Environment,
Bob Debus said the project was one of the ideas considered strong
enough to merit State funding.
"It will
be a valuable contribution to the quality of life in the local community,"
he said.
For
those businesses interested in participating, or for more information
on the program call Maria Tsounias on 9562 1662.

Rockdale Town Centre has its own brand
Last
year Rockdale City Council and the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce
launched a branding initiative for Rockdale Town Centre. Since its
release the Rockdale Town Centre brand has been used in all promotions.
Choosing
a brand for a produce or service is important from a promotional
perceptive, as brands communicate and attract meanings. By creating
this brand, the local community can now be distinguished from other
shopping and business centres.
Shop
keepers have all been invited to participate in the branding of
Rockdale Town Centre by placing brand stickers on their shop fronts
windows. Flags have also been on display throughout the Centre.
By having the brand heavy displayed through the Centre, we are encouraging
customers to recognise the symbol and in turn recognise the attributes
of our Centre. In other words, allowing our customer to understand
that we are not just a group of individual businesses, rather a
Town Centre that can satisfy all their needs.
This
brand will continue to be used in future promotions. If you have
not received promotional material for your store, including the
brand stickers and the Rockdale Town Centre Business Directory,
please contact Maria Tsounias at Rockdale City Council.
