Rockdale Town Centre is strategically located only 12 km from the CBD, close to Sydney Airport and Brighton Le Sands. The completion of the new M5 Freeway, has also greatly improved access to Rockdale Town Centre from both outer and surrounding suburbs around Sydney.

Rockdale Town Centre takes advantage of its strategic location by also providing a major transportation interchange centered in the Centre. You can get to almost anywhere you need in Sydney from Rockdale, and alternative the whole of Sydney can easily come to Rockdale.

Who lives in Rockdale now?

The following statistics are provided by the 2001 Community Profile of Rockdale Town Centre.

Population
Population has increase by 12.7% over the past 4 years. The suburb of Rockdale recorded the largest increase in the local area. It is estimated that 15,215 people now live in Rockdale. This figure is estimated to project significantly over the next 5 years.

Families and Households
Most families in Rockdale (37%) are couple families with dependant children.
Rockdale has seen a higher percentage change of families with one parent move in compared to other areas.

Ethnicity
Rockdale has the highest concentration of overseas born people in the City of Rockdale with approximately half (49.1%) born overseas. Close to 60% of people in Rockdale speak a language other then English at home. The main languages spoken are, Chinese, Arabic, Macedonian, Greek and Italian.

Housing
Whilst over half of the residents of Rockdale live in single dwellings we have seen a high increase in the amount of residents living in high density dwellings. These now represent close to a quarter of the local residents, and it is projected that this will increase over the next 5 years dramatically.

Motor Vehicles
Rockdale has been recorded as having the highest proportion of dwellings without a motor vehicle compared to other areas in the City of Rockdale Yet never the less close to half of the local dwellings have one vehicle.
